The Henge
A private henge of stone that was built before our time. We can see it from the sidewalk.

Bayou Hynson flows under Bryn Mawr Bridge, as it meanders through Alexandria, Louisiana, providing a scenic setting for outdoor enthusiasts exploring the city's natural spaces. Named after local plantation owner Robert C. Hynson, this gentle waterway winds through key areas like Alexandria's City Park behind the Alexandria Zoo.

The walking trail along Bayou Hynson is shaded by large cypress, pecan, oak, and sycamore trees, creating a peaceful environment for nature walks and exercise. The bayou is host a variety of wildlife, including turtles, raccoons, nutria, waterfowl, countless bird species, and many active squirrels. Egrets can be seen especially often, wading in the water in search of food, and groups of turtles bask on sunlit banks.

Adjacent to these trails, the Alexandria Zoo offers a closer look at both native and exotic species. Its location near the bayou enhances the natural ambiance, blending the surrounding ecosystem with the zoo’s exhibits. Together, Bayou Hynson, Big Island Park’s Oak Trees, the park trails, and the zoo create a tranquil escape in Alexandria, inviting residents and visitors to connect with the region's natural beauty.
